Ongoing and completed investigations into motor learning, memory, and neural correlates of skill acquisition.
This project investigates how working memory influences the acquisition, consolidation, and reconsolidation of motor skills, as well as interlimb transfer — the ability to use a newly learned skill with the opposite limb. We examine the time-dependent interaction between working memory engagement and skill memory reactivation, and what this means for generalization across contexts.
Using high-density EEG, this project examines the neural signatures that accompany motor skill acquisition and transfer. We investigate event-related potentials (ERPs), oscillatory dynamics including beta rebound and theta activity, and functional connectivity between cortical regions. The goal is to understand how the brain reorganizes itself as a skill is learned and becomes automatic.
